Tijimbat Minyerri - Wet Season 2014

Our name, Teachabout, closely aligns with the word, tijimbat, a Kriol word from the Roper River region, which means 'teach your kids about everything'.

Teachabout has a unique approach to school holiday programs. Our programs are well thought-out and expansive with a strong focus on building relationships with the kids, their families and community members. They incorporate a wide variety of activities including art projects, science experiments, cultural knowledge, drama, ICT, music, dance and sport. English literacy, numeracy and problem-solving skills are integrated across these activities and also form the focus of specific sessions.

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander visitors should be aware that this website may contain images or names of people who have since passed away.

Tara: Annnnd we're here!

Annnnd we’re here! The Teachabout mob arrived in one’s and two’s on Thursday afternoon and in the early hours on Friday morning.

Our time in Darwin started off a little rocky; we came across various stumbling blocks on Friday, with the team needing to pull out all stops to ensure we delivered a successful program. We finished Friday on a positive note however with Program preparation in full swing, a group walk/run and some dinner in a Asian Fusion Jazz Bar (with eclectic art choices) near our accommodation. We are really excited to be arriving in Minyerri on Monday.

The view during our run on the beach was pretty spectacular:

Saturday was spent buying all of the resources needed for the program. This involved trips to Bunnings, Spotlight, Jaycar, an art store, a music store, Big W, Kathmandu, two-dollar shops, op shops, sports stores, JB Hifi, pharmacies and Woolworths. Needless to say we are all pretty over shopping and shopping centres. Here is just a small portion of our purchases:

Then came the sorting of purchases into a logical place in numerous boxes and bags, and the never-ending recording of receipts!

Tonight we are looking forward to vegan burritos and having a look around Darwin. We leave for Katherine tomorrow, where we will stay overnight before we drive into Minyerri on Monday. Stay tuned and thanks to everyone for the support we have received from back home so far!

This is Tom eating a bowl of Mexican tofu….We told him it was chicken…..
